The frequency of phimosis was evaluated on the basis of literature review and personal data study. The majority of newborn boys (96%) have physiological phimosis which spontaneously disappears at the age of 3-6. Due to this fact, the frequency of phimosis gradually reduces with age and it is as low as 1-2% during puberty. Conclusions were drawn on the basis of the conducted study, children with physiological phimosis are monitored until the age of 6 and in certain cases until the age of 18.
Active surgical tactics is recommended in case of pathological phimosis. Therapeutic approach, i.e. treatment with steroidal and nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs, is possible in the absence of foreskin atrophy and sclerosis as an alternative to surgery.
