Abstract

Multi-drug-resistant tuberculosis (MRTB) of the lungs is the most pressing problem of modern phthisiology in Ukraine. Surgical treatment allows to improve the results of treatment of children with MRTB.

Objective: to acquaint a wide range of physicians with experience in the surgical treatment of children and adolescents with MRTB.

Material and methods. During the period from 2008 to 2018, the surgical treatment of pulmonary MRTB was performed in 24 children.

Results. The overall surgical treatment efficacy in the observation period up to 10 years made up 95.8%. The abacillation of bacillary excretion, the clinical condition improvement, cavity closure and positive X-ray picture in dynamics were observed in 23 (93.5%) patients. Postoperative complications were observed in 4 (16.7%) patients treated conservatively. Relapse of MRTB in the postoperative period was observed in 1 (4.2%) patient.

Conclusions. Comprehensive surgical treatment allows to improve the treatment outcomes of children with pulmonary MRTB.
